The President of the Republic of Ghana and African Union Leader on Advancing the Cause of Justice and Payment of Reparations, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, on the eve of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, led a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the African Burial Ground National Monument in New York, in honour of Africans who lost their lives during the transatlantic slave trade.
The ceremony was attended by Senior Government Officials from Ghana including the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Special Envoy for Reparations, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, and other dignitaries such as Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, representatives of the African Union, Permanent Representatives of United Nations, Members of Parliament from coastal constituencies in Ghana, as well as civil rights leaders, including Benjamin Crump and Reverend Al Sharpton.
